Description:
  Abstract:  Digital orthophotography of New Jersey in NJ State Plane Coordinate System NAD83 Coordinates, U.S. Survey Feet. The aerial photography of New Jersey was captured in March and April 2012. Multi-spectral digital orthophotography was produced at a scale of 1:2400 (1"=200') with a 1 foot pixel resolution for the entire state, totaling approximately 8,162 square miles..Digital orthophotography combines the image characteristics of a photograph with the geometric qualities of a map. Each digitized perspective aerial photograph is rectified for camera lens distortion, vertical displacement caused by terrain relief and variations in aircraft altitude and orientation.
  Purpose:  This data depicts geographic features on the surface of the earth. It was created to provide easily accessible geospatial data which is readily available to enhance the capability of Federal, State, and local emergency responders, as well as plan for homeland security efforts. This data also supports The National Map.
  Supplemental Information:  This data set consists of 1-foot GSD pixel resolution natural color orthoimages covering the state of New Jersey, An orthoimage is remotely sensed image data in which displacement of features in the image caused by terrain relief and sensor orientation have been mathematically removed.This publication format is 5000 ft by 5000 ft MrSID MG4 tiles. For 1.0 foot GSD Ortho image, horizontal positional accuracy was designed not to exceed 4 feet (1.22-meters) NSSDA 95% confidence (2.89 feet [0.88-meter] Root Mean Squared (RMSE) Error XY 2.03 feet [0.62-meters] RMSE X or Y). Each orthoimage provides imagery over a 5000-foot by 5000-foot block on the ground. There is no image overlap between adjacent files. The projected coordinate system is New Jersey State Plane with a NAD83 datum. Aerial photography of New Jersey was captured on the following flight dates: March 14, 2012; March 15, 2012; March 18, 2012; March 19, 2012; March 23, 2012; March 27, 2012; March 30, 2012; April 3, 2012; April 4, 2012; April 5, 2012; April 6, 2012; April 13, 2012; April 14, 2012; and April 16, 2012. The Nominal Acquisition Altitude of 9600' (AGL) was used to capture the imagery. Supplemental flight lines were also acquired over defined urban areas of Atlantic City, Jersey City, Newark, and Trenton in order to provide additional imagery to be used in the process of minimizing building lean during orthophotography production. The DMC large format digital camera captures four band (RGB and NIR) imagery at 12 bits per pixel. For software compatibility a linear stretch was applied to expand the bit depth from 12 to 16 in order to facilitate the display of the imagery in ArcGIS. This dataset consists of uncompressed, ortho photo tiles adhering to the State of New Jersey's 5,000 x 5,000' ortho photo tile index formatted as 16-bit, 4-band (RGB and NIR), uncompressed, GeoTIFF images with TIF world Files. Digital Orthorectified images are referenced to New Jersey State Plane Coordinate System (Transverse Mercator), North American Datum NAD83 (NSRS 2007) adjustment. Units are U.S. Survey Feet. The tiles were subsequently reprocessed to compressed MrSID format. See process steps for details.The U.S. Geological Survey also received imagery referenced to UTM Zone 18 North, North American Datum NAD83 (NSRS 2007) adjustment. Units are Meters.Maximum and mean differential baseline lengths were not generated for the NJ Statewide project due to the use of Applanix SmartBase software used to process and compute atmospheric errors within a specified GNSS multi-base network.SmartBase processing offers a number of significant benefits including: The distance to the nearest reference station can be extended well beyond 30 km. The time to fix integer ambiguities is significantly reduced. The overall reliability of fixing integer ambiguities is increased. No special processing is required in the RTK engine, as it is the case for a centralized multi-base approach. Due to the complexity of the typical reference station network used in SmartBase processing, determining maximum and mean differential baseline lengths is not feasible for this project.
