Downloadable Data
  Theme:   utilitiesCommunication
  Place:   New Jersey, NJ
Abstract:  The download data represent the National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA) State Broadband Data Development Program (SBDD) area of broadband availability for the state of New Jersey. The bi-annual source data is delivered to NJOIT as the grantee of the Program by its contractor - Applied Communication Sciences Inc. The download package consists of: 1) an ArcGIS file geodatabase with more than 40 feature classes derived and processed by NJOIT-OGIS from the Spring 2014 NTIA submission repesenting data collected from NJ providers; and 2) the Contractor's document "New Jersey Broadband Mapping Project: Methodology Report on Data Integration and Validation Procedures for April 2014 Submission" in pdf format. The geodatabase contains 2 feature data sets with wireline and wireless broadband providers and their service (technology of transmission, advertised upload and download speed), and separate layers representing such categories as basic technologies of transmission; results of maximum speed and services count per Census Bureau county subdivision; and community anchor institutions (CAI) as end users of broadband service.Area of broadband availability in the source layer representing services of wireline providers refered to individual US Census Blocks. In the final data sets resulted from geoprocessing and extracting, census blocks boundaries are dissolved. Each data set includes metadata.
Purpose:  This data set was collected to facilitate the creation of the national broadband map and the State of New Jersey Broadband map. It will aid in the evaluation and planning of activities to increase broadband availability and usage of broadband services in the state.
Supplemental Information:  This data was collected from companies providing broadband services and the institutions making use of those services in the state of New Jersey. It was validated using rules specified by the NTIA and verified where possible using external data sources.
