Please Note: There are a number of data products that are currently in development. This page will be updated when new datasets are made available.

The following is a list of internal and external GIS resources that have been compiled to support the Emergency Management efforts post Hurricane Sandy in and around New Jersey. As new layers become available, we will add them to the list. If you are aware of any resources that are not on the list, please email me and I will add them to the list.

Imagery Map Services

All of new Jersey's imagery is served out from a WMS single end point, below is the list of available imagery services. To select a particular layer, set the LAYER parameter in the WMS request to get an individual imagery series. If accessing the serrvice via a desktop client, create a WMS Server connection and reference the base URL, it will bring up all of the available imagery services.

The base url is: http://njwebmap.state.nj.us/njimagery?

If you try and access the URL directly in a browser, you will not see the imagery, it will return a file with the WMS error

2012 Hurricane Sandy Rapid Response Imagery

Please note the changes in the URL's for the REST and WMS end points. The map service changed from a dynamic map service to a image map service. Please confirm that your apps are pointing to the updated URLs and you are using the proper layer type in your APIs
This map service will be updated as new imagery is released. It is currently displaying the flights from: 10/31 to 11/6

This imagery was acquired by the NOAA Remote Sensing Division to support NOAA national security and emergency response requirements. This rapid response product was generated for use by emergency managers for visual analysis of damage in the area. It is not intended for mapping, charting or navigation. In addition, it will be used for ongoing research efforts for testing and developing standards for airborne digital imagery. The ground sample distance (GSD) for each pixel is 35 cm. Image file size is between 1 MB and 10 MB. In an effort to acquire imagery in a timely manner after the event, clouds may be present in the imagery. Be advised that the Bounding Coordinates reflect the extents of the images acquired for this event and do not imply full image coverage of the area.

2010 National Agricultural Imagery Program Aerial Photos

Digital orthophotography of New Jersey, distributed as a Web Map Service (WMS). There are numerous layers in the service, one displaying the 2007 3 natural color bands, another displaying 2007 3 band false color infrared (near IR). The native data set spatial reference system is State Plane Coordinate System NAD83 Coordinates, U.S. Survey Feet. The map service is accessible as New Jersey State Plane Coordinate Feet (NAD83), WGS 84 and Web Mercator. Multi-spectral digital orthophotography was produced at a scale of 1:2400 (1" = 200') with a 1 foot pixel resolution for the State of New Jersey totaling approximately 8,162 square miles. The GeoTIFF tiles delivered to the State of New Jersey were then converted to lossless JPEG2000 files, which are used in this service. Aerial photography of the entire State of New Jersey was captured during March-May, 2007.

This Web Map Service (WMS) layer serves a seamless copy of Digital Raster Graphics (DRG) of U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) 7.5 minute topographic quadrangle maps.Original DRG'S supplied by the USGS were reprocessed by removing the collar information and reprojecting into NAD83 NJ State Plane Feet.Each raster entity or pixel contains a color index from 0 through 12 referencing a color palette of RGB values from 0 through 255 in which the standard colors used in the DRG are defined.

10' Digital Elevation Model

This statewide 10 foot resolution Digital Elevation Model (DEM) was developed from 12 separate major New Jersey LiDAR collection projects, and one LIDAR project done for Delaware. Bare earth points from the original point clouds were re-sampled to create 10 foot resolution bare earth models for each individual project. These individual 10 foot resolution models were then merged to create this statewide DEM.
