Towns and counties calculate their general tax rates in many different ways, making comparisons between jurisdictions difficult,
if not impossible, without some statistical adjustments. Thats why this map shows effective tax rates and the averages of equalized
valuations for each municipality. Effective tax rates and equalized values allow apples-to-apples comparison of tax rates and property
values by using standard formulas for every town and county. These rates and valuations do not correspond to what is printed on tax
bills or notices. The assessed value of property, which is on taxpayer bills, can be found by using the property tax search engine on
this site. However, the equalized values and rates have long been used to allow comparisons between different jurisdictions.
The Side-By-Side Tax Comparison tool allows users to compare and contrast tax information using factors like property type and average rates.
Select the type of tax rate to view in each panel from the drop-down menu and navigate to the the area of interest.
