No Parcels in my Area?
Most of the state is covered by edgematched parcel data, but several areas are missing: Essex County outside of Newark; and most of central and southeastern Middlesex County. Efforts are underway to fill in some of the missing areas.
Data Details
The land ownership parcel polygon data displayed here are a composite from data sets furnished by counties and municipalities across New Jersey. The data have been edgematched across municipal and county boundaries.
Information about property ownership, assessed value, and property taxes, is drawn from the NJ Dept. of the Treasury, Division of Taxation, Tax List Search database. This is an extract of the MOD-IV statewide real estate tax management system. The extract is performed each January and published in April. The data displayed were extracted in January 2010.
Why Don't the Lines Match the Aerial?
There are two major reasons:
  1. Some property ownership lines do not coincide with physical features that can be seen on a photograph.
  2. The parcel boundary data were developed at different times, using different techniques, by different organizations. Some are more accurate than others. Some are older and/or more out of date than others. For the most part, these data are intended only for general cartographic and planning use. This map is NOT a tax map, nor are the data survey data, and the data are not used to set the taxable area of a parcel.
No Tax Information for my Parcel?
The tax record data and the parcel data come from different sources. Because of this, the records do not always match, or match incorrectly. When preparing the data for this site, records that clearly would not match correctly were excluded; as a consequence, about 15% of the available parcel records do not display tax record data. Efforts are underway to correct data for better match rates.
By selecting a County from the drop-down list, the map will zoom to the County and provide a list of municipalities in the County.
